Artist’s Rationale
Mark Cuthbertsons artwork is a playful commentary on society,  turning the monotonous into something far more interesting and challenging. Mark creates art that deconstructs an idea to its simplest elements and rebuilds it into something that tugs & pushes our preconceptions. He creates using simplistic and common aspects of the everyday and manipulates them into work that is unexpected, evocative and surprising.  Mark experiments with a variety of constructed forms & large scale air controlled environments, exploring new mediums and ways of pushing the boundaries of his practice.

Mark Cuthbertson bio

Mark Cuthbertsons current practice is exploring metaphors of colonisation & domestication within a broad national context, experimenting with a variety of constructed forms & large scale air controlled environments, drawing relationship and direction between the work & the given installation site. He regularly works with Back to Back Theatre on various projects including Lady Eats Apple, Super Discount, Ganesh Versus the Third Reich, Hell House and Food Court. Other recent work includes Seeding for a Greener City – inflated installation, design & fabrication (Macau, China 2012), Shoeless Wyndham city council, & Arts Access, lead artist, design & fabrication (Werribee 2012), Court House Arts - launch lead artist (Geelong 2012), The 5 Whale Project community residency Upwelling Festival (Portland 2012), and Stereosonic Yellow Duck installation (National Tour 2011).  Mark’s work has recently been awarded public art commissions with, Geelong City Council 2017, Hepburn Shire 2016,  Golden Plains Shire 2015, & the private sculpture collection of Rodney Smorgon 2016.
